He was non other than our Perak MB, Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
It also reported him as saying :
"If there's any breeding, sorry for having to use that word, the embryo will also carry the same virus. So that is even more unfair because you are actually passing that disease on to the child."
Is his statement backed by any medical facts or validation? Oh! how i shudder to think of the people around the world laughing at us and the amount anger and frustration this 'inhumane' moron just created for those suffering from this very unfortunate illness. People around the world might be wondering if Malaysians still live in caves.
So much for a Pakatan Rakyat MB. Are we doomed being Malaysians? Does human rights actually exist in Malaysia. I'm beginning to doubt it.

Hi Dr S
I think we should get more info before jumping to conclusions.
Perhaps Nizar was just trying to prevent AIDs victim from breeding.
It's sad but a necessary measure to control the AIDs epidemic.
Hi Jed,
while controlling the spread of AIDS and keeping it's prevalence rate low is very important, taking an epidemiological or demographic approach to treat a certain illness should be limited to just numbers and statistics. When it comes down to treating, managing and caring for a patient with HIV it becomes more complex.
AIDS is not curable, but current medication allows people who are HIV positive to live their daily life just like everyone else. Not only is their life expectancy prolonged, the quality of their life improves tremendously as well.
People inflicted with HIV can live a normal life and can contribute to the society and nation building. They can have sexual relationships and can get married, but they and their partners should be aware of the dos and the don'ts in such instances (Positive Prevention).
Segregating them or isolating them is not an option. They are humans after all. Let's also not forget that social stigma that they face on a daily basis. Many of them also end up being isolated or abandoned by family and friends.
While most of them self inflicted themselves with this disease via improper and high risk life styles , there are a large number of them who are innocent victims who got inflicted due to someone else's ignorance. Most of the innocent victims are young women (in reproductive age) and children.
It is more of the ignorance factor, rather than the severity of the illness itself, that needs to be tackled. Education and awareness is crucial in controlling the AIDS epidemic. Isolation and segregation is not the answer.
My argument here, Jed, is, why make a press statement when you've not done your homework. Management and care for HIV positive persons have taken leaps and bounds around the world, and we have a Malaysian minister talking about isolation and segregation and abstinence which is rather stone aged.
I am not an expert in the area of linguistics, but using the word 'breeding' directly on a person is rather crude. That's why even Nizhar himself apologized for using that word. Maybe he could have used a finer word, but that's just my opinion and i stand corrected on that one.
Thanks for dropping by mate. You have a Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year ok.
cheers
